Blood Sisters A Novel Jane Corry Books

A book with amazing potential that failed to reach it on several levels, the best I can say is the ubiquitous "Meh." And I truly wanted to like this one, staying up late to get further along, hoping some aspects would improve, pulled along in spite of myself to the conclusion. Splat.

There is a mystery surrounding The Accident. The tale is told alternately by the two sisters involved, and it is in this dual point of view that the novel is its strongest. The older sister, Alison, is another one in what is quickly becoming a plethora, a veritable tsunami, of whiny, guilt-ridden, hand-wringing, tearful female characters who grate on my nerves. Alison knows one song only, and she drones on and on and on from the first chapter until the end. Worse, she is annoyingly repetitive, and her single-minded determination to be a martyr becomes boring. How many times must we hear the same note from that one song before we cease to care? I was done with her somewhere around Chapter Six.

On the other hand, Kitty, the younger sister who is allegedly brain-damaged and cannot speak, is absolutely wonderful. She is snarky, profane, bitter, frustrated, and fascinating, and her voice, which never makes its way past her lips and out into the open, is beautifully done. I cared about Kitty, even with her episodes of rage, her twists and turns on her way to normal communication.

A plus is the judicious doling out of backstory; it's a bit here, a bit there, and almost always where it makes sense to find out what we need to know. Hence the true story of The Accident is never revealed all at once, nor too early on. There are also a couple of plot twists that I didn't see coming, but then I prefer to simply read instead of trying to figure out who--or what--done it.

Unfortunately, I found The Big Reveal to fall rather flat. Not the facts of what happened, and who did what, but the almost pedestrian manner in which the characters reacted to it, and then the way the last two brief chapters appeared to tie everything together. Most peculiar, and unrewarding, for me.

In spite of my general disappointment that the book wasn't better than it was, given its premise--and promise--I can still recommend it, with caveats, as a decent summer read.

Blood Sisters A Novel Jane Corry Books Reviews

An engaging read for a rainy day. The characters were engaging and the plot fast moving. You do have to suspend disbelief a bit though.
This is a very good book
Good book with interesting twists. It started off slow but picks up and is hard to put down.
Loved this and couldn’t put it down! Amazing twists to the plot that were totally unexpected. Looking forward to other books by same author
It was a slow start for me, but once I focused on the characters, I was hooked. The twist and turns, each one of character came to life. I could see this being a movie. Can't wait for your next novel.
It takes awhile to get into it but after awhile then, it's a page turner. Loved it.
Don`t give up.
I liked the character of the sister Kitty and getting inside her head. That part was great. However, the story was so unbelievable at times it really lost me. The main character made so many victim-like decisions, I found it frustrating. Also, the small realm of characters in her world made it predictable and flat. Sorry to not be more positive.
